On one of our recent trips to get out of the house, Sweetums and I decided a great place to practice social distancing is a cemetery. We love the history and beautiful funerary art in Huntsville’s Maple Hill Cemetery and enjoy walks in the serene setting.
On this day, however, we came across a new piece of art. According to Cemetery Director Joy McKee, who was interviewed by WHNT, the tree had been damaged by storms and was no longer safe. Rather than cutting the tree down completely, the city hired Tennessee artist Roark Phillips to carve the trunk into beautiful vines of ivy. Check out our photos below.
