I am hoping someone from Huntsville, home to NASA and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, can save a statue that is for sale. The figure is 20-feet-tall and made of fiberglass. For many years, it was owned by Magic Forest Amusement Park in Lake George, N.Y. Currently, the park is under new ownership and selling off all its fiberglass figures.
The asking price for the astronauts, which give the appearance of spinning in space, is $4,000. As of today, it is still for sale through American Giants. See it here.
Now for the fun part: The statue has a connection to Huntsville’s own famous rocket scientist, Wernher von Braun. The sale descriptions says, “These two astronauts are amazing in their detail. It is a one of a kind piece and was dedicated by Wernher Braun in 1972 at Time Town in Bolton Landing, NY. It is a large piece and probably stands over 20 ft high. We are not sure on exact dimensions or weight but the pieces appear to be fiberglass.”
I keep hoping someone might buy it and keep it as part of Huntsville history. Anyone who is interested should contact Joel at info@usagiants.com.
