Ruins of the historic Mentone Springs Hotel

Years ago, Baby Girl and I visited the historic Mentone Springs Hotel on Lookout Mountain.

Mentone is a mountain town in DeKalb County, Alabama, with quaint gift shops and eateries. But its jewel was the 130-year-old Mentone Springs Hotel that overlooked the town. When it burned on March 1, 2014, Alabama lost an incredible piece of its past. White House Antiques, shown below, survived.

A while back, Sweetums and I went and visited the ruins of the iconic hotel, which was built in 1884. I’m not sure what the plans are for the property, but for now the stone ruins and iconic sign stand as its memorial.
