Hey, everyone!
I’m excited to announce the arrival of one last book for 2023! I get so many requests from people who miss seeing my humor columns in newspapers, so we decided to create a collection of those essays in a book called It’s a Southern Thing: Life’s Different Here, Y’all.
It includes more than 60 columns in a 6-by-9-inch, 190-page hardcover book and sells for $19.99 right here. (The adorable cover was created by artist and friend Jan Shade Beach of Huntsville, Ala.)
Here’s the synopsis:
Some people wonder, what makes the South the South? Is it the borders of a group of states? The food? The mindset? Why do we Southerners think of ourselves as having an “otherness,” a sense of togetherness, that no other region in the nation can match?
We don’t all think the same, or look the same, or have the same genes. But, in some indefinable way, we are a family. In this book of columns written for It’s a Southern Thing, award-winning humorist Kelly Kazek evokes the beauty and quirky character of the South that raised her.
Here are just a few of the topics discussed in the book:
- Southern mamas, daddies, MeeMaws, Mama’n’em, and all kinds of relations;
- Banana pudding (I try to never write a book without mentioning it);
- Alligators that ring doorbells;
- The Southerner who never heard of a tomato sandwich;
- The problem with socks and sandals;
- Why husbands don’t understand throw pillows;
- Mullets;
- Southern manners and things that are un-Southern;
- Well-worn recipes and heirloom gardens;
- The Southern delicacy called Vie-een-ah sausages;
- Sooooo much more.
The book concludes with a much-needed discussion of why we need to vote for Dolly Parton to be our next president. A write-in campaign is all we need, y’all. Now that she’s in the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame, it’s the obvious next step for her.
Please let me know if you enjoy the book!
